How to move plants

Moving house can be an extremely exciting time. Its often a new start and a door to a new life. But that doesn’t mean you have to leave your old life behind. AR Removals in Wakefield can help you bring your old life with you.

Removal companies are experts in a safe and trustworthy transition of one property to another. This is usually anything from antiques, vintage furniture, electronics and even plants. For many homes plants are a central feature to the interior decoration. For some homeowners their decorative plants can be as an essential feature as a dining table or fireplace. House plants can often last over 50 years and have been passed down through generations, which is why you need an experienced removal company to help.

The first thing to consider when moving a plant is the preparation. Preparation is key and if the right steps are taken then a plant can survive for two days in transport.

  • Wrap the clay pots in a damp newspaper and then add a layer or two of dry paper.
  • Tie up the stems of any large plants with elastic bands so that the movie isn’t complicated by stray branches.
  • Pack the plants closely together in boxes pots and fill any spaces in the pots with paper so they don’t crack or break on transport.
  • Punch holes in the sides of the boxes that will work as air holes allowing the pants to breathe.
  • Check the plants for bugs or parasites.

Avoid shocking the plants on transport

Moving plants can often stress plants. Changing their environment and living conditions even temporarily can potential damage or kill plants. Here’s what to watch out for.

Extreme temperatures can be fatal to your plants. You should do your best to insulate them from the dangerously high or dangerously low temperatures.

if you are moving your plants in the summer remember to water your plants before the journey. Try to water them the night before too. F you are moving your plants in winter then do not water your plants for up to 36 hours before the moving day.

The sudden change from natural light to darkness can hurt the plants life and also the aesthetics of the leafs. Try to adapt your plants to this change over time by exposing them to less light gradually, for a week or so before the move.

Once you arrive at your new homes

The key here is to act quickly. Unpack your plants as soon as possible. Resettle them into well watered and fertile soil.  Be careful not to damage any stems when picking them up or moving them, they can be fragile. If the soil is frozen then keep your plants wrapped up.

By following these steps you can ensure your plants will arrive healthily into your new hoes and new life with you.

Experts in Domestic Removals in Wakefield

Organising a move to your new house can be very daunting. If you really think about how many things you have in your home you will truly realise that everything must come with you, unless that is, you get organised and plan. Do you really need absolutely everything that you own, aren’t there just some things that could either be sold or thrown away?

Is it worth moving the item?

When you’ve been living somewhere for a long time you tend to lose things and forget about them, you might not realise exactly what you have, either that or you just keep it for ‘sentimental reasons’. But when you think about exactly what you have, think about it this way: are you really going to pay someone to move this? When you see something you own, you might realise that the time effort and money to move it is not sensible.

Get help when moving your items

With all the stress of the move, it’s best to leave packing to the experts. It will save you time and hassle because they have been doing it for a long time and will be much better and more efficient than you will at packing. They will be very careful with your items as they know how much some can mean to you. It’s a very small price to pay for such a quick and efficient service.

However, make sure you pack a box of essentials for the move, otherwise these may be packed away and you won’t be able to get to them until you unpack, similarly, get rid of everything you don’t need as these items may also be mistaken and packaged and you’ll find them when you go to unpack and realise you spent money on moving something you were going to throw away.

Think how you’ll feel on moving day

It’s only by sorting and getting rid of unwanted items that you will appreciate the ones you kept more. It will be much more joyful to unpack items that you know you want to keep, especially when you’re able to go through everything that mean the most to you. Keep in mind, the day you get to your new home, you will be sorting your items, if they’re sorted professionally it will be a much quicker and painless process. You’ll feel so much freer and ready to move on in your new home.

How to choose your removal company

At AR Removals we understand how stressful moving house can be.  After the initial excitement has died down, there may seem like an endless list of things to do and lots to sort out in very little time.  Choosing a reliable and efficient removal company can make the whole experience a lot smoother and remove a lot of hassle from the process.  On the other hand, a service that lets you down is likely to add to stress levels.  We suggest you think about the following things when selecting which removal company to use.

Decide when you can move

Before looking for quotes decide what time of week it will be possible for you to move.  It may be tempting to try and book a Friday off work or take a weekend slot in order to have extra time to unpack.  However, this is the peak period for companies and prices may come at a premium.  Is it possible to move on a week day instead?  This may be cheaper and the roads are likely to be quieter too.

Properly prepare for the move

This may sound obvious, but only move what you need to.  Moving house presents a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted or unused items in your home.  You could donate goods to charity or perhaps sell them at a car boot sale for some extra cash.  De-cluttering means moving less, unpacking less and potentially saving money on overall costs too if there is less to transport.

Find out exactly what’s included in the quote

Once you know when you can move and have a good idea of the amount of stuff that will need taking to your new home, it’s time to get some quotes.  When requesting these it’s really important to find out what is included.  In particular, it’s a good idea to ask whether boxes and padding are included in the price, if it includes staff packaging up your belongings or not and whether the company has insurance.  We recommend getting the fee and everything it includes in written form so that it is clear exactly what services the company will provide.

Things to remember when you move

Buying a new property can be an exciting time, but once the news sinks in and you start to look at all of your stuff, panic can soon set in when it comes to the thought of packing up all of your belongings.

At AR Removals, our Wakefield house removal experts know first-hand how stressful this process can be. Because of that, we have put together this article to help keep you sane during your move.

1) Pack Smart

It sounds like an obvious suggestion, but our house removals experts see people all over Wakefield that do not pay close attention when packing boxes. Moving home gives you a chance to throw out the clutter – be brutal and stop hoarding! We also advise that you give yourself some time to pack, don’t take it all on in one go – go slow, it’s stress free and gives you more time to pack smart.

2) Don’t Pack Your Wardrobe

Pack your wardrobe last, but why? As house removal experts, we’ve picked up on little stressful things that can tick Wakefield-folk over the edge. Packing your clothes away early on can mean a lot of ironing when you get settled. Pack your wardrobe on the day of the move, and take them on the hangers. Then when you get there, unload them first, straight into your new wardrobe. It’s one less thing to have to sort out in the long run!

3) Switch Utilities

Pretty obvious, but we highly recommend that as soon as you get a date on when you are leaving the property, ring your utility companies and switch them over to your new property. It’s amazing how many people forget!

4) Hire A Removal Company

Last but not least, one of the most highly recommended things to do when moving is to hire a local house removal company. These people work day in and day out working with people in the same position as you, helping them move quickly and effectively. At AR Removals, our house removals experts in Wakefield are highly regarded as one of the most reliable in the area, carrying out a range of services including single items removals and emergency removals.

Top tips when moving house

It is a well-known fact that moving house can be a stressful activity.  Over the years AR Removal have helped many people in the Wakefield area move house and understanding how difficult packing up can sometimes be.  Drawing on our wealth of removal experience we have therefore come up with a list of ten top tips to help you move house hassle-free:

  1. Don’t mix and match

Keep items from different rooms in separate boxes.  This means that when you unpack everything will be in the correct place making the process quicker and easier for you.

  1. Use pre-existing padding

It is not always necessary to purchase special packing materials.  Socks, towels and old clothes make great padding to help protect your more delicate items.

  1. Hang on!

It is unnecessary to take clothes off their hangers, just cover them in a bin bag when you move.  This means that when you arrive at your new home they can be hung up in the wardrobe straight away.

  1. Keep glasses safe

To transport your glasses safely use empty cardboard wine cases.  This means that each glass is stored in its own compartment.  Newspaper can be used as extra padding if needed.

  1. Look out for liquids

It’s really important that liquids are kept upright and stored in a separate, plastic container to other items.  This means that if anything does spill other things won’t get damaged.

  1. Use suitcases for books

Packing boxes are prone to ripping when they have lots of heavy books inside them.  Suitcases provide a handy, alternative way of packing them up.

  1. Make handle holes

Heavy cardboard boxes are not always easy to lift.  To make things less difficult use a box cutter to make a hole on either side to provide something to grip onto.

  1. Have a box of moving day essentials

There are certain items that you will need access to on the day of the move itself.  To avoid unnecessary time and stress, put all these items in one box so they can easily be found when needed.

  1. Use sandwich bags for bits and pieces

It is likely that some furniture will have been taken apart before the move.  Sandwich bags are perfect for storing nuts, bolts and screws in so that they don’t get lost along the way.

  1. Don’t move what you don’t need!

Moving house is the perfect time to de-clutter by donating items you don’t need to charity.  This means less things to pack and unpack and more space in your new house!

Moving house with pets

Moving house is a stressful process but can be exciting and rewarding. For families with pets, however, the process can be even more complicated and stressful.

Here are some tips from our experienced moving team at AR Removals in Wakefield on how to most house with pets.

1.       Safety First.

If you have cats and dogs, it is important to know they will be safe and away from harm while the move is going on. For dogs, you could consider placing them in a kennel on the big day, and for cats, you should try to keep them in a locked room in your house, so you know where they are when it is time to get them. Your pets are likely to be confused and stressed, so it is important to keep them as far away from the process as possible. Remember to feed your pets, and keep one person responsible for them during the move.

2.       Help them settle in

Pets prefer familiar environments, and after you have moved they will find themselves in strange new environment. Cats tend to be quite confident, and dislike being kept indoors, so it will be safe to let them out after a week or two. You can also spread some of their used litter around the property to help your cat feel more familiar once outside.

Dogs tend to be more nervous or excited than cats. You can familiarise your dog with the new house by placing familiar scents and furniture sooner. Letting your dog sleep in a cage for the first few days might be a good idea if they are nervous.

3.       Travelling with your pet

Keep your pets in an appropriate and safe container, such as a cat basket or a cage. If you are travelling a large distance, ensure your pets have access to food and water, and the opportunity to use the toilet. Ensure you secure your carrier or cages correctly in their car. Ensure your pets have the appropriate collars on to identify them if anything should go wrong, and make sure your pets are healthy before the move.

Important things to remember when packing to move

Packing and moving house or offices can be stressful and tiring. Our team at AR Removals can offer the full moving package to your family or business, including packing and unpacking your belongings. Here are some important things to remember when you are packing to move house or offices.

1.       Before you start

Pack ahead of moving day to ensure that stressful day runs smoothly. Consider what you will need to take with you and pack it carefully.

2.       Make a priority packing list

Start with a clear out of the things you don’t need, so you are not moving unwanted belongings. Work out what you are taking and what you will need access to immediately before and immediately after you have moved, and pack the things you don’t need access to you as far in advance as possible.

3.       Remember the packing essentials

There’s more to packing and moving than putting stuff in boxes. Remember to get the essentials in advance, such as bubble wrap, strong tape and self-seal bags to keep your little pieces together.

4.       Don’t completely fill large boxes, as they will be too heavy to move.

Make sure your boxes are sturdy and that you don’t over pack them. If they are too heavy to lift then they could break during your move.

5.       Prepare an overnight bag

Prepare an overnight bag for everyone in the family, and make sure that there is enough toilet paper and toiletries for everyone, both before and after the move. That way the important personal items won’t be lost or mixed up in a number of boxes. Other useful items that should be kept close to hand are a torch, a first-aid kit including pain relievers, pencil and paper, and re-closable plastic bags, along with a small tool kit.

6.       Pack up to down

Begin at the top of the house and move downwards. If you have an attic, it’s a good idea to sort it out first. You are also more likely to need access to kitchen stuff sooner. Ensure big pieces of furniture are moved first, as you will most likely need your bed when you move. Also remember to label boxes by room and contents.

At AR Removals we pride ourselves on being a friendly, experienced removal team that we will endeavour to make your removal as stress free as possible. To find out more about the services, include moving house support, we provide call us on 01924 371164.

Top Tips for unpacking once the move is complete: Part 1

Once the move is complete, the removal men have left, and you’re faced with a mountain of boxes now to unpack. Here at AR Removals, we know that this is the most unpleasant part of moving, and truly when the hard work begins. Therefore, we’ve decided to give our customers some top tips to make this part of the process just that little bit easier. This week we’re giving our customers Part 1 of our top tips, with Part 2 coming soon!

Cleaning each room

Firstly, the most tiresome job is to clean every room. This is dependent on the end result, and unfortunately if it’s not done or avoided, it only means a deeper clean will have to be done later, whilst everything is already in the room. Ensure that you’ve prepared a box of cleaning goods before the move, so you don’t need to be rummaging through all the boxes looking for them.

Open the box with essentials in first

Essentials when moving include, toilet paper, toothbrush, snacks, a change of clothes, and anything you can’t get by without. This box should be packed and labelled clearly before the move, and will then make the rest of the move much easier.

‘Bathroom’ box is a must to open

The next box to open, which is key to a simple move, is finding and unpacking the box labelled ‘bathroom’. The bathroom tends to be the easiest room, partially because all the furniture is pretty much installed beforehand. Therefore, all that’s needed is the hygiene products, toilet paper, bathroom and cleaning products, and anyhting else that you have in your bathroom. Simple, the room is done – on to the next one!

Arrange the furniture

When the movers are unpacking, the best thing to do would be to tell them where to place each peiece of furntiure. This is a real help during the moving process, and any shortcut should be taken advantage of! However, if you’ve not yet decided where the furniture is going, this is the time to arrange in which room, the larger furniture is going.

AR Removals are proudly building themselves a reliable reputation around the Wakefield area. We try and ensure that we can remove as much stress from moving as possible, taking on much of the responsibility ourselves. We’re experts in removals, whether a domestic move, or commercial. We also do light haulage and storage in Wakefield and the surrounding areas. For more information, do not hesitate to give one of our friendly team a call on: 01924 371164 or click here.

Packing Fragile Items: A How-to Guide

Moving house is never a simple process, with everything to sort whilst balancing work, children, and then of course packing. Here at AR Removals, we completely understand just how stressful a move can be, that’s why we’re always on the look out to make the process much simpler for our customers. This week, we’ve decided to concentrate on packing fragile items and giving you some top tips to ensure that your belongings are protected during the move, giving you one less thing to worry about.

Plates are one of the most common fragile items which movers will encounter. So, what are the do’s and don’ts when packing plates? Firstly, the box should be the smallest box which can fit the plates in. Then, get a sheet of packing paper, and place it on the table. Put down the first place (usually starting with the biggest first – working your way up to the smaller ones). Folding the edges of the packing paper around the plates to create a present like wrapping on each plate. Then placing all the plates in the box, if there are any gaps in the box, do not use this for another plate, use crumpled packing paper to fill them. Then close and label the box.

Glasses, Cups and Bowls

Following a similar format as that of plates – ensuring that they’re individually wrapped in packing paper and using a small box, which the glasses, cups and bowls fit in. So, first of all, layer the box with packing paper, this is done to cushion the edges. Towering each individual item (towering glasses, or cups etc.) then wrap each tower in packing paper. Again, filling any gaps within the box with packing paper. Closing the box and labelling.

Framed Pictures and Mirrors

Firstly, these items should be wrapped three times in the shape of a six-pointed star. This will ensure that the glass will not shift from the frame and it will avoid any breakage. Ensuring that the box you will pack these items in fits the pictures and mirrors. Again, ensuring that they are packed similarly to presents. And again, fill any gaps with paper.

AR Removals are a reliable domestic removal company based in Wakefield, who aim to try and take as much stress out of house moving as possible. Whether it’s a domestic move or a commercial move, AR can help. And it’s not just moving, we also do light haulage and storage in the Wakefield area. A Few useful tips for Domestic Removals

We consider ourselves experts here at AR Removals on domestic moves and removals. Therefore, we’ve decided to make a few tips that we think are useful to all who are planning an upcoming move. Moving is a stressful, and complicated time for anyone – therefore we’re constantly thinking of ways to make the process somewhat easier for our clients.

Make a Rundown List

First and foremost, it may sound like an obvious step, but keeping a detailed list throughout the move will ensure that the thing you woke up and remembered at 2am, is documented. We also advise that you mark off every time you’ve done something on the list to avoid any confusion. Have a good plan of action before you start packing – unplanned packing can cause unnecessary stress, which if can be avoided in the move – should be at all costs!

Additionally, keep a separate list which can help with your removal company also, which includes the contents of each individual box.

Ensure not to overpack each box

Keeping each box relatively light, and not too cramped has two benefits. Number one, your stuff is more likely to remain intact and therefore less likely to encounter any breakages in the move. Number two, quite simply, ensuring that the boxes can be lifted with ease. This will avoid any unwanted injuries throughout the move – which should certainly be avoided!

Change Utilities and Redirect Mail

With a hundred and one things to complete before moving, keeping on top of things is the key to a successful move. This includes ensuring that your TV, internet and telephone providers are all kept up to speed with moving dates. It’s also unlikely you will know who is moving into your new house – therefore using the Royal Mail’s post direct service will be incredibly beneficial for anything you’ve forgotten to change the address with.

Here at AR Removals, we’re confident that we can make your move as stress-free as possible. We have a reputation for providing an excellent service to our customers in the Wakefield and surrounding areas. Feel free to get in touch with our team for a quote or any other advice on 01924 371164.

Guide To An Easy Move

Moving home is one of the biggest causes of stress after divorce and bereavement. Moving to a new home is meant to be exciting but the process of moving is always a dread. To ensure that you have a hassle free move, there are a few guidelines to follow.

Be Organised

The main and most obvious point is to not leave your packing till last minute. It can never be too early to pack. The earlier you begin to pack, the easier it is going to be on the actual day of moving. Go through all your belongings and get rid of the things you don’t particularly use. This will make it a lot easier for you to pack and unpack also.

Labelling your boxes is a really good way of keeping organised. Most do this anyway, but it’s important to label your boxes appropriately and so that you understand it. Simple and not complicated is the way to go for an easier way of unpacking.

Boxing Up

You’re going to be doing a lot of carrying so it’s important to not overload your boxes. Using big boxes for lighter items and heavier items in smaller boxes will not only reduce the risk of injuring yourself, but also protects your belongings from damage.

Enjoy Your New Home

Once you’re all unpacked take time to relax and get used to your new surroundings. You’re already stressed from the moving house process so it’s important to rest. It’s time to enjoy this new chapter of your life.

If you need help moving home, AR Removals are an experienced and friendly removal team, working across the Wakefield area. They take pride in helping their customers have an easy and stress free move and have been heloping people move house for many years.

How to reduce stress when moving home

Moving house is universally acknowledged to be one of the most stressful things you can do. From the moment you decide to sell your house to unpacking your new home, you are bombarded by to-do lists, house cleaning and meetings with estate agents. Here at AR Removals we have come up with a few top tips to help reduce stress both before, during and after the move:

Choosing the right estate agent is half the battle. Make sure you read your contract in full and know exactly what you are getting into. For example there are many estate agents that lock you into a sole agency agreement, this means that you have to list solely with them for an agreed period regardless of the service you receive.

The next step is prepare your home for viewing to increase your chances of selling your home as soon as possible.  Amanda Caley of Property Reviver recommends following ‘the five Ds’: declutter, depersonalise, deep clean, dress and DIY. According to Russell Quirk, 53% of buyers prefer to be shown around by the host as they have a greater local knowledge than an estate agent. If you are showing people around try and detach yourself emotionally and make an impartial list of the best features, thinking about what you would want to know if you were entering for the first time.

On the day of the move itself. Make sure you employ a removal firm you can trust and they are aware of what you want and how you want it done. A good removal firm will come out to you before the move to assess the scope of your move and what equipment will be required, use this time to ask any of your questions about the move.

Once the move is out of the way it is tempting to try and unpack everything as soon as you arrive, which can be overwhelming. Instead take a breath, get a good night’s sleep and plan a systematic and realistic unpacking schedule for the next few days, this will make sure everything is where you want it.

At AR Removals we pride ourselves on being a friendly, experienced removal team that we will endeavour to make your removal as stress free as possible. To find out more about the services, include moving house support, we provide call us on 01924 371164.

What should your removal company be doing for you?

When paying a removal company and entrusting them to safely transport your goods, it is important you know what they should be doing for you. Here at AR Removals we have come up with a list of the essentials that should be at the core of what any reputable removal company provide.

Pre-move survey

Firstly your removal company should come and look at the location before the move. This is so they can assess any access issues and understand the scale of the move, which will inform decisions such as van sizes and how many people are required for the move. Issues which are definitely better to resolve before the move rather than during!

Packing and Unpacking

A full packing and unpacking service should be included in any removal service. Expertise packing and removal of your goods, preferably including a furniture dismantle and reassemble service, ensures your move goes off without a hitch.

Your removals company should provide all the equipment needed for your move. Some will sell you sets of packing materials while others will include them as part of their quote. It is always good to check the company has a good supply of moving equipment such as: Satnav (to locate your destination quickly), packing boxes, transit blankets, hanging garment carriers, mattress covers etc. These items can make all the difference to the smooth running of your move.

A good removals company should offer goods in transit and public liability insurance as an inherent part of their service. Be aware that some companies will ask you to insure your own items.

Customer Service

Arguably the most important is the high level of customer service a removal company should provide. You want a company with a professional yet friendly demeanour that you know you can trust to deliver an efficient, timely service.

AR Removals specialise in house removals, office removals and single item moves across Wakefield and the surround areas. For more information about the packages they provide or for a free no obligation quotation, call on 01924 361164.

The important thing when picking a removal company is to do your research. Below are a few top tips on the importance choosing the right removal company and what to consider when picking the one for you.

Payment Options

Firstly it is important to find out how the company would like to be paid, most reputable companies will only ask for payment after a job well done so be wary of those asking for cash up front.

It is also worthwhile to check the company’s policy regarding delays, the last thing you want after moving house is an unexpected charge when the delivery took longer than expected. At AR Removals there is no waiting charge, the price you pay is the price to complete the job.

To ensure smooth running on the day you want a reliable removal company that is guaranteed to turn up at the appointed time and deliver your goods safely.

A sure sign of a professional removal company is uniformed staff. This will make it easier to identify the team turning up to move your belongings are from the removal company you hired, guaranteeing peace of mind.

It is always a good idea to check with removal companies about their level of insurance, this will give you peace of mind that your belongings are covered.
